Business Continuity Plan: 5 Ways to Tune-up, Reach Out and Stay Strong

Business Continuity Plan to keep your business open virtually during covid-19

We understand that these are unprecedented times right now, both personally and professionally challenging. Like you, we’re closely monitoring the quickly developing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While practicing social distancing, many of you may have businesses that are temporarily closed or workflow reduced, with unexpected time on your hands. While there are many out-of-the-ordinary distractions from the “stay-at-home” mandates, this is a good time to allow ourselves reflective and introspective moments we wouldn’t necessarily have otherwise. We can assess our lives, our place in a game-changing point in time, our personal and business relationships, and our own businesses. We can take stock of where we are now and how we need to adapt to the evolving social and business environment to avoid a break in continuity of our business.

You should consider addressing the following:

  1. Let your customers know what you are doing right now and how you are preparing for their future. You can do this virtually with website messaging, social media posts, text messages, and what may be needed most—a personal phone call to reach out and ask “How are you?” A phone call won’t reveal if you shaved today, need a haircut, or still have pajamas on. We may want to do this more often rather than a one-off event.
  2. When you’re done making a round of posts and calls, review your website content and assess if the technology is tuned-up and ready to go now, before you get back on a normal track. When was the last time you reviewed the brand message, services offered, added content, or refreshed older content to bring it up-to-date or into today’s context? Are there new services to offer and old ones to remove? Some examples are: new images, content posted about your most recent projects and successes, employee highlights and stories of personal interest, volunteerism, community involvement, product news, or company news.
  3. Review your business branding and collateral. Do they still represent you well or can they use a refresh?
  4. Consider preparing special emails, postcards or banners to address the current concerns of your clients, customers and community.
  5. Create e-books, white papers or social media posts with infographics to attract attention.
